Arrival & Dismissal
AM/PM ARRIVAL DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Please take the time to read this document thoroughly.
A big thank you goes out to the Knapp Staff, NPSD Safety Department, Home & School Association and Lansdale Police Department for their efforts in helping our children arrive and depart from Knapp as safely and efficiently as possible. Our process is described in detail below.
To ensure the safety of all, students and parents should cross only in our designated crosswalks.
If your child gets dropped off by car in the AM…
Slowly drive your vehicle straight up the Knapp driveway (left of building), past the stop sign and follow along the yellow path in the rear of the building.
Student drop off will occur at the designated DROP-OFF AREA (door near the gym ramp) where Knapp staff members will be waiting beginning at 8:45am. Parents will drop off students three cars at a time by the orange cones. Students will proceed inside and be seated in the gym until the bell rings at 8:55am when they will proceed to their assigned classrooms. Students who eat breakfast will report immediately to the cafeteria after 8:45am.
When waiting to drop-off, drivers of vehicles should be mindful not to block any intersections (Near Parking Lots and Stop Sign)
If your child walks to school in the AM…
Walkers should use sidewalks and crosswalks, enter through the front doors of the building and then proceed to the gym. Students will wait seated in the gymnasium until the bell rings at 8:55 a.m., then proceed to class. Students who eat breakfast will report to the cafeteria when the 8:45 bell rings.
If your child rides the bus in the AM…
Students will get picked up at the designated time, at their assigned location and be dropped off at school each morning when the bell rings at 8:55 a.m. Students will proceed directly to their assigned classrooms prior to the 9:05 a.m. late bell.
Students eating breakfast will exit the buses at 8:45am and proceed directly to the cafeteria.
If your child is a car rider in the PM…
At 3:35 each day, car riders will be dismissed starting at 3:35. Students will walk to the gym and be directed by staff to the waiting area. Drivers will follow the yellow path at the rear of the building. As you pull up to one of the three cones, your child will be directed to come to your vehicle by a staff member.
Please be mindful not to block any intersections or crosswalks while waiting to pick up your children.
If your child is a daily car rider – you will be provided with a sheet with the name(s) of the children you are picking up. Please place it on your dashboard. Clearly visible to staff.
If you need to pick your child up occasionally –
Call the school office BEFORE 3:00 and your child’s name will be put on the car rider list.
Any changes will be announced during afternoon announcements.
Staff members will ask you for your name and then check your child off the daily list.
Cars should be mindful not to block any intersections while waiting to pick-up.
If your child walks home after school…
Students will be dismissed at 3:35 p.m., during Phase I. Students will exit out the front doors and walk home.
Parents of walkers may meet their children outside the front entrance of the building each afternoon at 3:35pm.
If your child rides the bus afterschool…
Students will be dismissed during Phase II & III at 3:37 & 3:39 respectively.
Intermediate bus riders in grades 4-6 will exit through the LEFT lobby doors (closest to the library) and proceed directly to their assigned buses.
Primary busriders in grades K-2 will proceed through the RIGHT lobby doors(closest to the health suite) and walk to their assigned buses.
To ensure safety, Knapp staff members and parent volunteers will be stationed along the recently yellowed-lines and renovated curbs.
Parents are not permitted to intercept children boarding buses to provide a ride home in a vehicle.
Knapp busses depart the school grounds by 3:50 p.m. each day.
In the case of an emergency parent pick-up, parents must come into the office and a staff member will locate the student boarding the school bus.
Safety at Knapp Elementary School is of our highest priority. Please follow all above guidelines and be patient as it takes 15 minutes to exit all 700 members of our school community in a safe and orderly manner. Any parents interested in volunteering during arrival/dismissal times should contact the Knapp office at 215-853-1510.
