Volunteer Opportunity - Elementary School Math/Reading Tutor
Volunteer Opportunity Details:
The volunteer in this position will tutor one or more students with the support of the North Penn United Way and the Knapp Elementary School in the North Penn School District. The majority of the one-hour tutoring sessions will take place at Knapp Elementary School in the library on Mondays from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Some tutoring sessions in mathematics may take place during the school day. Volunteers will receive a basic training session prior to the first tutoring session. A list of specific skill needs and tutoring materials will be provided by the school for each student.
• To provide support in closing the achievement gap for a focus group of students in grades three through six
• To assist students in improving their skills in reading and mathematics
• To provide support for parents in the North Penn Community
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Encourage and support the students by:
➢ Helping them develop confidence and a positive attitude about learning.
➢ Respecting them and involving them in decisions about the learning process.
➢ Incorporating the training and materials provided for the student.
➢ Guiding them in adopting behaviors that will assist their learning.
➢ Meeting regularly and punctually.
• Assist students with homework.
• Keep records of each student’s progress and hours.
• Observe confidentiality at all times.
• Up to date TB shot
• Ability to communicate and relate with students
• Sensitivity to the needs and abilities of learners
• Acceptance of students of diverse backgrounds
• Patience and enthusiasm
